Tuesday evening ( 7/1/2008 ) a bunch of us met for a Gentlemen’s Ride through the Garden of the Gods park in memory of Mike. We met at 6:00 and left at 6:30—- rode through the park and then through Manitou Springs, down Pikes Peak Ave, then back through the park by way of Ridge Drive. Mike would have loved it. We got a chance to talk some about Mike and his passion for the sport and how he was instrumental in getting so many others involved. Even when he was sick last summer, I have this image of him at the Tiffany Square park-and-ride on a Saturday morning with his clipboard, organizing 20 or 30 Bicycle Village riders to head out for the day. He was committed to other people until the end. There will be no replacing Mike Kessler. I’m just hoping he will talk to me when I am out on some long stretch of highway.
